CSR at Ndoyaa Garments

Corporate Social Responsibility is not just a ‘nice to have’ at Ndoyaa Garments, it’s a way of life.

Our previous factory was situated right opposite one of the largest urban slums in the country, Nima. Opportunities for stable work are not abundant in the community, which can make life difficult for people. Our former location gave us a unique perspective when it comes to the idea of giving back to our community, and that sentiment has not changed now we are situated in Burma Hills.

For years, we have been offering full training opportunities and stable, reliable employment, to anyone in the local community who needs it and has the passion for changing their life. We offer a free training programme based on the applicant’s field of interest. Once they pass that, they are put on a probationary period of three months, during which they can showcase their new skills in their chosen job role as part of the team. If they perform to a satisfactory standard, they are employed permanently.

We currently have employees who came to us with no experience, but, through our training and their hard work, they have been able to gain a host of useful skills. They are mechanics who keep the machines running, quality checkers who ensure the garments pass our high standards before going out to customers, and machinists who sew the clothes on the production floor.

We also plan to continue offering these opportunities through our sister brand, Charisma, whose factory is still located in Kanda.

Education is Key

We believe that education is the best long-term solution to poverty. In addition to offering free training to those in our own community, we support the education of children of the Northern Region with charitable donations.

Many children in the area do not have adequate footwear, making it very difficult for them to go to school. We donate 25% of the proceeds from the sale of our popular, [sustainably produced] aprons, to purchase sandals for these children. It is a simple gesture, but one that can make the difference between a child in a badly deprived community getting an education and being able to make the best of their future, or remaining in impoverished conditions for life.

Our CSR initiatives revolve around training and education, as at Ndoyaa Garments, we believe that educating the next generation is the surest route to a better future for all.
